三亚自然博物馆坐落于国家5A级旅游区——三亚南山大小洞天旅游区内，2007年9月9日正式对外开放。馆建筑面积2400平方米，由北京自然博物馆承接设计，博物馆采用高科技声、光、电技术，，再现了1.4亿年前的世界，其设计达到一流博物馆的水准。三亚自然博物馆是一座集观赏、展览、征集、科研和科普教育于一体的现代化博物馆。

    三亚自然博物馆是海南省唯一的自然博物馆，馆藏品包括被联合国科教文称为“20世纪最惊人的发现”——辽西热河古生物化石：贵州关岭、河南西峡、山东山旺动物群、宁夏同心生物群、内蒙、甘肃等全国各地珍贵的古生物化石以及海南当地独有的动植物标本，亦有被益为“东方神木”价值连城的海南阴沉木、石中精品——五指山黄蜡石等共两千余件展品，门类齐全、标本珍贵、保存完好。其中国家级精品达800余件。更有部分藏品在国际上称得上孤品，在国内外同行中堪称翘楚。世界上第一朵花——辽宁古果、镇馆之宝——模式标本三亚翼龙、
鸟之始祖——圣贤孔子鸟、中华龙鸟等品相完美的珍贵展品都可以在博物馆看到。

    三亚自然博物馆先后被海南省科协、海南省科技局、共青团三亚市委、三亚市科协认定为“海南省科普教育基地”、“海南省自然科技馆”、“三亚市科普教育基地”、“三亚市青少年教育活动基地”、同时又得国内知名学府首都师范大学和中山大学的认可，成为两所大学的科学实践基地。人说：博物馆是一个城市的眼睛。三亚自然博物馆的落成，填补了三亚文化旅游的空白，成为三亚文化旅游的一面旗帜，它将为三亚插上“文化的翅膀”，让三亚飞得更高更远！

Sanya Museum of Matural History is the only Museum of Natural Hislory in Hainan Province, include the collection Liaoxi Rehe Paeontology Speciments:“the most amazing discovery in 20th century” by UNESCO, And costful paleonlology fossils, and Hainan particular speciments of animals′and plants′from all over China: Guanling Guizhou province, Xixia Henan province, Shanwang Fanua Shandong province, Tongxin Biome Ningxia Province.
